The potential of experience
Our track record is proven; from National Sport Agencies and Governing Bodies to County and School Sport Partnerships, our portfolio is expanding. This is down to our growing reputation for meticulous planning and strong delivery of successful projects that include:
Review of Central London's Community Sport &
Physical Activity Networks (CSPANs)
PRO-ACTIVE Central London (PACL) and the seven central London CSPANs commissioned Press Red to carry out a strategic review of those CSPANs.
The purpose was to assess the current and potential development of the CSPANs. Allowing PACL to understand, represent and support CSPANs and the wider delivery system in central London more effectively.
The review focused on defining what an excellent CSPAN would look like. In turn, leaders and members where able to assess their CSPAN's progress against this agreed definition. Press Red then pulled together and presented back the results. Facilitated workshops enabled each CSPAN to identify its strengths, areas for improvement and priority actions.
The project culminated in recommendations to the board of PACL on how they might address the common challenges affecting their CSPANs.
Review of West London's Community Sport & Physical Activity Networks (CSPANs)
Press Red was commissioned by PRO-ACTIVE West London to undertake a review of their six CSPANs.
The project followed a similar pattern to that of the central London review, with self-assessment at its heart. However, the process was refined to take into consideration the different stages of development of the CSPANs.
The review benefited considerably from learning gained across a total of thirteen CSPANs in London. This allowed recommendations to be based on a broader experience than that within the West London area. It was particularly useful for CSPANs facing particular issues to learn from another CSPAN that had overcome the same issue.
Improving PE, sport and physical activity for children & young people
Press Red was commissioned by the London Borough of Lambeth to develop an action plan that delivers Lambeth's Framework for PE, Sport and Physical Activity for children and young people (C&YP).
The action plan was established through Press Red's work both individually and collectively with a range of stakeholders. This included agreeing the responsibilities of different partners.
Since then, Press Red has supported Lambeth's PE, Sport & Physical Activity for C&YP Group to implement the plan. As part of this, we have bid for and secured over £65,000 from Aiming High for Disabled People into sports provision for young people in the borough.
Funding bid workshop development
The South and West London Lifelong Learning Networks asked Press Red to develop and deliver a series of funding bid workshops.
The workshops aim to improve the bid writing skills of employees in Further and Higher Education institutions in London. Our work involved editing resources, as well as planning and facilitating the workshops.
Developing a partnership framework for disability sport
English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) wanted a way to galvanise local partners to create provision that drives up participation in sport and physical activity by disabled people.
Press Red created an approach for EFDS, operating nationally, to work with more local partners to improve the supply of provision and opportunities.
This involved a review of recent policy developments and the opportunities they’ve created for EFDS and disability sport. We also worked with EFDS and the County Sport Partnership Network (CSPN) to establish a national partnership framework. The framework outlines how EFDS could work with the county sport partnerships to increase participation in sport amongst disabled people at a local level.
Establishing a strategy development process
Press Red was commissioned by Wandsworth Council to design and deliver a workshop to kick-start their sport and physical activity strategy development.
The workshop, for Active Wandsworth, established the scope of the strategy, a process and timescale for its development and a vision for sport and physical activity in the borough.
Review of National Occupational Standards
SkillsActive asked Press Red to support the review of the National Occupational Standards for Sports Development at levels 3 & 4. As well as contributing to the review, Press Red redrafted the 'underpinning knowledge' required to achieve specific standards.
Sport Action Zone and Pro-Active Central London - Dare2Dance
Press Red was commissioned by the North Lambeth and North Southwark Sport Action Zone and Proactive Central London to develop an action plan for the growth of the Dare2Dance initiative across London. Consulting with a range of partners involved in the initiative to publish a plan that they can all support. The plan will see considerable growth in the number of girls and young women given the opportunity to take part in street dance and ensure stakeholders can commit their funding support.
Developing Youth Strategy and workforce development programmes
Press Red in partnership with Oaks Consultancy was commissioned by the British American Football Association (BAFA). The aim of the project was to generate successful growth and development of the sport by delivering a number of education and participation events in 2010. This included producing a youth strategy and flag football plan.
In addition to the strategies, a range of education programmes were developed and delivered to increase the quality and quantity of the BAFA workforce, particularly coaches, officials and volunteers.
Supporting the ECB's engagement with external
partners
Press Red has a long-term relationship with the English Cricket Board (ECB). We are currently working with the Regional Development team on two important pieces of work.
The first aims to develop the RDM team's awareness and understanding of the external context in which they operate. Through this work it will provide them with skills and knowledge to support the partnership working of County Cricket Boards.
Secondly, we are supporting the ECB engagement with other partner networks, with particular focus on the ECB's engagement with the County Sport Partnership Network.
Review of ECB inter-school soft ball competitions
Press Red recently undertook a review of the ECB's inter-school competitive cricket framework. The review resulted in a new vision and set of principles for what inter-school competitive cricket (ISCC) should achieve.
The work carried out had implications for the existing inter-school soft ball competitions, in particular whether their current formats deliver the new ambition. The ECB have therefore asked Press Red to review the current competitions. Specifically, to establish stakeholder views on the current structure, management and rules of both Kwik and Inter Cricket.
This will contribute to informing future ECB decision making on achieving competitions that deliver the new vision.
Advantage: young people
Creating sporting opportunities together
Clubs for Young People (CYP) commissioned Press Red to design and deliver a series of 5 workshops across England. The workshops were run jointly for County Sports Partnerships and CYP County Associations. Their aim was to explore opportunities for the two networks to work together, both at a strategic and delivery level. The workshops also explored the potential partnership in the context of Sport Unlimited.
The workshops created greater understanding between the two networks, with 25 countywide joint action plans produced. The final report produced on behalf of CYP, proposed actions for maintaining the momentum achieved through the workshops and how further support should be provided to NGBs.
Best Practice Governance Arrangements
Press Red was commissioned by Birmingham Sport and Physical Activity Partnership (BSPAP) to produce revised governance processes in line with best practice guidelines.
Working with the Partnership Director, a comprehensive governance toolkit was prepared which met both local and national audit requirements. This provided the executive board with clarity on the scope of its roles and responsibilities. It also defined accountability for financial and risk management processes.
"Press Red have a relaxed and friendly approach, which is matched by very professional and value for money delivery. They provide real attention to detail but without losing sight of the bigger picture and what the client is striving to achieve."Mike Dickenson, Director Birmingham Sport and Physical Activity Partnership
Review of Membership Services
Press Red was appointed to review the needs of existing and prospective members of the ECB Coaches Association.
Services offered internationally by other coaching associations were researched, as well as those of other leading member-based organisations. Existing members were also interviewed. The research provided direction and evidence to support changes to improve the membership categories and services of the ECB Coaches Association.
Developing a 5-Hour Offer Framework
Press Red has been appointed by PRO-ACTIVE Central London to research and develop a sub-regional 5-Hour Offer Framework.
Our work includes a review of national and local policy to clearly articulate the current position of the 5-Hour Offer ambition. We are supporting pilots in two London Boroughs to plan the 5-Hour Offer in their area and sharing the learning with the other central London partners. Finally we will be producing a simple sub–regional 'Framework' to address the common challenges that come out of the Borough plans.
Do Events Increase Participation in Central London?
Press Red was appointed by PRO-ACTIVE Central London to conduct a review of using events to increase participation amongst priority groups in Central London.
The project involved researching how events have been used as a driver for increased participation in physical activity and sport, detailed consultation to determine local priorities and the presentation of recommendations for future action to the PRO-ACTIVE Central London Board.
Shaping a new direction for Inter-School Competitive Cricket
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) appointed Press Red to lead a strategic review of inter school competitive cricket.
Through the project a clear vision and revised action plan for inter school competitive cricket was established. This included carrying out a comprehensive survey of partnership working amongst the national network responsible for delivering inter-school cricket competitions. The learning from the survey was shared with key ECB personnel through a bespoke workshop designed to drive improvement.
Project Managing a Workplace Sports Event: '5K Your Way'
Press Red performed an interim management role for PRO-ACTIVE Central London.
5K Your Way is a work-based health initiative with the seven local authorities in central London. It encourages workplace activity via supported training sessions, leading up to a 5K walk, run or jog event. Working alongside the team, Press Red was responsible for delivering this high profile project in 2009. The 2009 event saw a 55% increase in entrants. Follow-up showed high levels of satisfaction from partners and participants. 91% wanting to enter next year and; 78% stating that taking part had increased their activity levels.
